General Rules and Information

All 2008 PA State 4-H Horse Show Rules apply, and all animals being shown that day must meet the health requirements as stated in the rule book. Please refer to your rule book for additional information and answers to your questions. If your family did not receive a rulebook, please contact your Club Leader or download a copy from the Penn State Dairy and Animal Sciences website by clicking PA 4-H Horse & Pony Rulebook (Feb 2008).

All 4-H horse and pony project leaders, members, and parents are strongly urged to read the PA 4-H Horse Show Rulebook and Supplement. Click the link above to download a copy or request a copy from the Extension Office. If you have not reviewed the current rulebook, please do so immediately. Clarify any questions you may have with your 4-H project leader or Cindie Searight, 4-H/Youth Educator. Waiting until the last minute to find answers to your questions may in fact jeopardize your or your horse's qualification for county, regional, and/or state 4-H events.

In 2000, the District 11 adopted Walk Trot Pleasure and Walk Trot Equitation Rules for 4-H members who show in these classes. These rules will apply at the Beaver County 4-H Horse & Pony Roundup. Copies of these rules are available upon request and will be mailed to those individuals who enter the Walk Trot classes.

The final Beaver County 4-H Roundup Class Order will be available on the day of roundup when you check in to receive your number for the day.

Health Rules
The following health rules apply:

  • All horses over six (6) months of age MUST have proof of current negative EIA status.
  • Proof of rabies vaccination or inoculation at least 1 month prior to this event is required for the show. 4-H members must submit a rabies certificate signed by a licensed veterinarian as proof of rabies vaccination for all 4-H horse events. The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) will only recognize a rabies vaccination administered by a licensed veterinarian or under the direct supervision of a licensed veterinarian. The exact form to be used for rabies vaccination verification is not specified. We will accept any legitimate proof of vaccination provided by a licensed veterinarian that includes the veterinarian's signature, date of vaccination, and name and/or description of the horse. Acceptable forms of vaccination verification include, but are not limited to, standard rabies certificate, itemized bill signed by the veterinarian, or statement on business letterhead that is signed by the veterinarian. For more information about this rule, refer to the PA State 4-H Horse Show rulebook.
  • A VCPR Form (Animal Owner's or Caretaker's Verification of Veterinian-Client-Patient Relationship) is required for all animals.

Helmet Rules

A 4-page Question-and-Answer document about the Pennsylvania 4-H Protective Headgear Rules can be found by clicking here. The Headgear Rules are outlined on Page 4 of this publication and will be in force at roundup.

District Show Entries

The District 11 4-H Horse Show will be Friday and Saturday, September 12 and 13, at the Washington County Fairgrounds in Washington, PA. District Show entries and fees will be accepted on the day of roundup only. District Show entry fee is $5.00 per class payable by check or exact cash amount only. Additional district show information will be available on the day of Roundup and in the 4-H newsletter. PLEASE NOTE: If you qualify for but are not going to District in a class, please inform someone in the entry booth as soon as possible on the day of roundup as this may allow another 4-H member the chance to participate at the District show.
